Questions and Answers From The Author
This book, by Alan Dunwiddie, is the ideal Isa investing Guide for both beginners and those who have more experience. It is packed full of honest advice on how to invest more profitably.
Here, Alan answers some of your questions
I'm a beginner to ISA investing, is your book suitable for me or I am just throwing my money away?
The book is designed to be short and concise, and therefore especially suitable for beginner investors. It'll prepare you to be better-informed about Isas before you start saving any money.
Which is better; Isa or Pension?
It depends on your circumstances, but in many cases an Isa is the better option, because you normally have quick access to funds when you need them whereas a pension cannot be accessed until retirement. People also forget that although pension contributions are tax-free, you have to pay tax on the funds on retirement.
Can I invest in gold and Silver through an Isa?
Yes you can. Exactly the same way as you buy any other share on the stock market, along with the added bonus of no VAT on silver purchases. The book tells exactly how.
How are Isas taxed?
Contrary to popular opinion, there are taxes on Isas, some of which are well hidden, and some Isa types are taxed more than others. The book explains all of this.
Are Isas government backed?
Not at all, it's simply an investment wrapper. Your investment can rise or fall in value just the same as any other.
Will a financial crisis like Northern Rock destroy my Isa?
Not necessarily. Many different investments are suggested in the book, and some of them actually perform better when there is a crisis like the one you mention.
What are ETFs and Bonds in relation to Isas?
These are types of investment you can choose. The book describes clearly the advantages and disadvantages of each.
Why do you call yourself Do-it-Yourself Isa?
Because doing it yourself can save you money in many ways. Third parties, like Financial advisors, rarely have your best interests at heart and can actually cost you a lot money in hidden fees. The book still contains a lot of useful information that will save you money even if you decide to still use an intermediary.
What's the truth about Cash Isas, are they really any good?
Indeed they are. You get the interest tax-free and usually at better rates than most other savings accounts. The book explains clearly how to make the most of your cash savings.
Which is better, Unit Trust or Isa?
A unit trust is just an investment type you can include in an Isa. Often the Isa Unit trust works out cheaper if you use the discount broker option for your Isa. It's all covered in the book.
So are you promising to help me become a tax-free millionaire?
Unlike some publications, we make no promises about how much money you'll make, if any at all! Anyone who can make promises like that is exaggerating greatly. What we do promise is to reveal the best investment types with the lowest fees, from there you make your own choices.
